I’ve regularly visited La Playa Fresh Seafood and loved the concept. One day, I was talking to Brandon, our bartender, and mentioned I would like to meet the owner. I was curious about the story behind La Playa Fresh Seafood and how it all began. Brandon smiled and told me that the owner, Rafael, was nearby and introduced me.

I was excited to meet Rafael and learn more about La Playa Fresh Seafood finally. He graciously took the time to talk with me and shared a little bit of the history of his restaurant. He told me that opening La Playa Fresh Seafood had been an exciting and fulfilling journey. It’s been a few months since he opened in July 2023, and he is thrilled with the response that he has received. His inspiration to open La Playa Fresh Seafood came from his love for Mexican seafood cuisine and a desire to bring the vibrant flavors of Puerto Vallarta Mexican seafood to the community.  The restaurant’s concept came about through extensive research, culinary exploration, and a passion for creating a unique dining experience showcasing rich and diverse seafood dishes. You will discover the culinary delights of the Mexican coast. Rafael’s talented chefs bring their extensive experience in contemporary seafood to create a unique fusion of flavors inspired by the stunning beaches of Baja, Nayarit, and Veracruz. Get ready to embark on a mouthwatering journey like no other!

Rafael also mentioned that what sets his restaurant apart from others in the area is his focus on authentic Mexican seafood recipes and how important it is to use fresh and high-quality ingredients in his dishes. He prioritizes sourcing the best seafood and other ingredients locally whenever possible. He is committed to delivering exceptional customer service and shared that one of his proudest moments as a restaurant owner is seeing satisfied customers return and building a loyal following.

When I asked Rafael what was his most popular dish, he smiled and told me it was the “Camarones a la Diabla” (Devil’s Shrimp). He shared that the spicy shrimp dish cooked in a flavorful tomato-based sauce is a customer favorite because of its perfect balance of heat and flavors. It keeps customers coming back for more.
As we chatted, Rafael also mentioned sustainability is important to him and his team. They prioritize the use of eco-friendly packaging, minimize food waste, and source from sustainable suppliers whenever possible.

If a customer could order only one item from La Playa Fresh Seafood’s menu, Rafael recommended the “Tacos de Pescado” (Fish Tacos). Before I left, Rafael recommended I try the “Ceviche de Camaron” (Shrimp Ceviche) from the menu. He said it was one of his personal favorites and a customer favorite. I took his recommendation, and this dish was delicious – fresh, tangy, and perfectly seasoned.

As I left La Playa Fresh Seafood that day, I couldn’t help but be impressed by Rafael’s dedication to his restaurant and customers.
